The 24 hours Bengali news channel 'Star Ananda', from the Media Content & Communications Services India (MCCS), a 74:26 per cent joint venture between Ananda Bazar Patrika and Star Group that manages the Star News channel, has decided to finally launch the channel on June 1.

The channel has already started the run-through to make sure it’s going to work. The channel has received the uplinking clearance last month. Suman Chattopadhyay the editor of Ananda Bazar Patrika will be the Executive Editor of Star Ananda. The Creative Duties are secured by Bates Kolkata, which has conceived a series of teaser campaign's, to be launched soon.

The launch of the specialised news channel was a natural requirement for the region which was experiencing economic resurgence with significant strides in various sectors like IT, retail, manufacturing and services.

The channel would leverage the strengths of ABP network for local news, Star news for national news and Fox and Sky network for international news. In Nov. 2004, Star India and the ABP Group have announced their plans to launch the Bengali news channel.
