Mahabharat, one of the world's greatest epics and India's most successful serial ever on Television will launch to local audiences exclusively on Rogers OMNI Television in Canada. OMNI.2 will premiere the series in Ontario on September 4, 2005, while OMNI.BC will launch Mahabharat on September 11, 2005 to viewers in Vancouver, Victoria and the Fraser Valley.

The 94 part epic tale dramatically portrays the extraordinary adventures and spiritual journeys that gave rise to Indian culture and is based on the 100,000 verse poem by Himalayan mystic-philosopher Rishi Ved Vyasa, known to be the fountain of all knowledge.

Three crucial chapters from Mahabharat that make-up the sacred text Gita have already been released to OMNI viewers. Last November, OMNI.2's special Diwali presentation of Gita met with enthusiasm and similar response is anticipated for this fall's broadcast of the series in-full.

"Rogers OMNI Television is proud to be the exclusive broadcaster for Mahabharat in Ontario and British Columbia; both provinces are ethnoculturally diverse and home to a significant Hindi language audience, Not only does Mahabharat hold tremendous historical significance for Hindi speaking viewers, its story is timeless and universal." Says Malcolm Dunlop, Vice President of Programming and Marketing.

When Mahabharat was first broadcast on Indian Television, it shattered television records by reaching 97.8% viewership. When it was broadcast in the United Kingdom on the BBC Mahabharat achieved audience figures of 5 million, unheard of for a subtitled series being aired in the afternoon. In deference to the language of the classic text, Mahabharat was produced in Hindi with English subtitles.
