The leading Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, has launched Automatic Speech Recognition, ASR service on the 7272 short code services. The ASR service will allow users updates on news and access content such as jokes, astrology, cricket, information on agriculture related products. The ASR service will be available to mobile phone users across the country.

The goal of automatic speech recognition is to accurately and efficiently convert a speech signal into a text message independent of the speaker or the speaking environment. In the acoustic segmentation and labeling approach, spoken sentences are first divided into segments, which are then matched to appropriate phonemes.
