Televisionpoint.com Team There is renewed interest in Sandeep Sawant's Marathi film Shwaas after the small-budget venture won this year's National Award for Best Feature Film, a Swarna Kamal from the President and a nomination to Oscar, the movie would be telecast on Zee Marathi, on October 29, in the Maha Cinema slot.
Shwaas is a special film, as it's popularity increased through word of mouth, unlike Hindi films, which thrive on publicity. It takes a sensitive, well-told story to get Marathi audiences into cinema halls, an Zee Marathi executive says. He says, Shwaas tells the heart-wrenching story of a child who suffers from a rare cancer of the eyes. The surgery he undergoes saves his life but not his eyesight.
The movie is inspired by a case from the files of Pune-based eye surgeon DR Shailesh Puntambekar. Noted actor and CO-producer of the movie Arun Nalavade plays a doting grandfather to the character played by Ashwin Chitale, who received the Best Child Actor award. Shwaas has only three characters—grandfather, grandson and doctor.
Shwaas is also the first Marathi film to have won the National Award in 50 years, the last winner being Shyamchi Aai. Shwaas also won several other awards, including the Maharashtra State Award and around 30 direction, acting, technical and jury awards.
Zee Marathi has initialed that Maha Cinema slot in August this year, the time band telecasts some of the most hit Marathi movies. It has already screened the blockbusters Saat Chya Aat Gharat and Phatakdi. |
