    Stars Boogie All The Way

    Saturday - Oct 22, 2005

It was rather a pleasant surprise to see the king of the Sahara (group) Subrata Roy back in action and attending a jewellery show in Mumbai recently -- he looked all healthy and hearty and I'm delighted for him. That was quite a scare he gave his countless employees, shareholders and well wishers... hope he's here to stay for good and at the helm of all affairs. Talking of kings... Ostentatious, flamboyant, glitzy yet classy -- that's the supposed king of good times Dr Vijay Mallya.

I've never met him but if his airline is anything to go by, I must admit I was quite impressed. I recently flew Kingfisher Airlines from Delhi to Mumbai -- the flight was delayed because of that Sahara jet that was stuck on the Mumbai runway but these guys more than made up for it. The care and attention to each passenger was excellent. They SMSed us all regarding the delay with frequent reminders as to the status. Helpful ushers to assist with our luggage, coffee and snacks while we waited, apology after apology for the delay, great food on-board and super TV programmes... All in all it was a great way to fly.

    BOOGIE TIME
Star One launched their muchhyped reality show Nach Baliye at a nightclub in Mumbai -- It was a live on-air party! For a change all showed up punctually and at sharp 9 pm the show went on air, amid loud cheering and lots of shrill whistling. As the directors yelled "cut" and the cameras switched off, the leading lights of telly-land sure hit the floor! Many could barely dance to save their lives, but they all shook a leg... The women went wild... You had to be there to see Archana Puran Singh, Maninee Mishra, Mansi Roy, Surpiya Pilgoankar and Rajeshwari Badola spin. Sangeeta Ghosh was in full form too! The guys were no less animated... However, since they had a tough time keeping up with Sachin Pilgoankar and his magical moves on the dance floor, most of them ended up at the bar.

Shakti Anand and Sai were there too, crazy glued to each other. Neeru Bajwa, minus her other half Amit Sadh, was perpetually spotted with that lost look in her eyes! Varun Badola and Apurva Agnihotri came sporting casual shirts and half pants... now, was that supposed to be a style statement or what? Farhan Akhtar accompanied by his significant other Aduna did a quickie... as in they made an early entry and exited just as soon! Sameer Nair and Shailaja Kejriwal of Star looked stress-free, finally! Deepak Segal, also of Star, was busy doing his bit mingling and networking with the visitors. A cake was cut by all the participating couples just before the clock struck twelve and right after that, keeping in tune with the Nach Baliye theme, they all returned to the floor to do their ritual dances... up until the roosters crowed outside!

    SERENE SOIREE
Buddy and pal Shatrughan Sinha and Shashi Ranjan hosted a get-together at the Sun and Sand Poolside, in Juhu, Mumbai recently. The bash was in honour of their better halves Poonam Sinha and me, since both of us share a birthday! The weather conditions were incredible and Gulshan Arora left no stone unturned in making the poolside setting heavenly! Even though the official invitation was for 9.30, Jackie Shroff and Anna Singh afraid that they would get too late, arrived straight from work at 8.30 and waited ... is that cute or is that cute! All the others schmoozed on in from 10 onwards... Govinda was there in total relax-mode! Subhash Ghai and Rehana came with their little daughter Muskan.

David and Lalli Dhawan were there too, as were Manali and Dilip Vengsarkar, Lucky and Mohamed Morani, Bina and Talat Aziz, the sex-bombshell Pooja Bedi.. Tsunami as she is referred to by Shashi... reason being that whenever she enters the office she freaks us out with her major enthusiasm, our promising new politician Shaina NC, Ramesh and Kiran Sippy, and Manisha Koirala who looked stunning as ever! Bad boy Gulshan Grover arrived with Jagmohan Mundhra, our director friend from Los Angeles.

Raveena Tandon who looked ravishing in her electric blue outfit came escorted by hubby Anil Thadani. Ashok Pandit was there too as were Samyukta, the Maharani of Bhavnagar, Kamiya Malhotra, Neelu and Tajdar Amrohi, Bollywood dentists Shalini and Suchetan Pradhan and Anju Mahendru. My favourite TV fellas Rohit and Ronit Roy came escorted by their lovely wives Mansi and Neelam. Soni Razdan came minus Mahesh Bhatt who couldn't make it as he was observing roza. Many of Mumbai's top cops came too, with their wives... Shabnam and Javed Ahmed, Jugnu and Amitabh Gupta and Ms and Mr Satyapal Singh. A magnificent evening in a breathtaking setting -- palm trees all lit up with fairy lights swayed in the cool sea breeze -- fantastic food and plenty of wine and dance -- a wonderful way to start a year for some and a marvellous way to end a day for others!

    STYLISH
The Lycra MTV Style Awards 2005 took place last weekend and the most stylish people in India across various categories were announced. While son Fardeen Khan performed at the awards, father Feroze Khan was bestowed with the MTV "Maha Style Icon of the Year''.. In television, it was Malaika Arora Khan and Rajeev Khandelwal who bagged the honours, and in sports it was Sania Mirza. Gautam Singhania was declared the most stylish business person and Omar Abdullah was selected as most stylish politician. Manish Arora won fashion designer of the year, Anna Singh was selected Bollywood designer of the year and breakthrough designer of the year award was given to Varun Behl. Atul Kasbekar won the best fashion photographer of the year award.

Upen Patel was once again declared the most stylish male and Sapna Kumar was declared most stylish female on the ramp. The show was hosted by Cyrus Broacha and colleagues Anusha, Ramona and Sophiya and it featured a fusion of music, style and fashion. Few chosen designers teamed up with music artists for special theme-based acts -- Aparna Chandra with Dr Zeus, Raghavendra Rathore with Bombay Rockers, Narendra Kumar with DJ Swami and Anamika Khanna with Ashu-Dhruv and Kailash Kher -- they had the young audiences all excited as that's basically what the lot turned up for! Judges for the event comprised Bipasha Basu, Mehr Jessia, Aki Narula, Feroz Gujral, Manoviraj Khosla, Wendell Rodricks and Milind Deora.

And, that's it from me for this week. Tons of excitement to write about in the subsequent week with all the inhabitants of telly-land completely geared up for their big night at the equivalent of their Oscars... the fifth annual Hero Honda Indian Television Academy Awards 2005. The humongous sets are under construction. The mega rehearsals have started and the show preparations are on a roll like one can't imagine... Nominations are no longer a secret and rumours are flying high as to who will take home the most coveted television award of the nation. So, until next time, please stay tuned and rukaawat ke liye khed hai...!
