Shemaroo Films to invest RS 50 crore for 5-7 films

Televisionpoint.com Team Shemaroo Films plans to invest RS 50 crore to produce 5-7 films over the next two years. In what is essentially a backward integration for the RS 85 crore Shemaroo group, best known for its home video and content distribution business, it has identified film production as a future growth area.
Hiren Gada, VP, Shemaroo, said, "Enthused by our maiden venture into production six months ago, we plan to create an unique library of content which will go a long way in strengthening our position as an entertainment company."
Shemaroo plans to fund these ventures primarily through a combination of internal accruals and institutional borrowings. First off the block will be an adaptation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece Othello, directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. The star cast includes includes Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi and Kareena Kapoor. Other projects are under discussion to fill the release pipeline for 2007. |
