Subhash Ghai, who has enthralled cinegoers with box office hits over the decades, is now turning his expertise to groom students in the world of film, television, radio and animation.

The renowned filmmaker has said that he is starting the Whistling Woods International Film and TV Institute from 2006. Meghna Puri, Ghai's daughter, who is spearheading work for the proposed institute, said, "The property will be ready by January. Training of faculty and chalking out would begin after that. Teaching would begin by June-July 2006."

Set in 20 acres of Film City, the RS 50 crore institute will offer a two-year diploma course at a fee of RS 5.5 lakh per year. Facilities at the institute would include an on-campus hostel, audiovisual and text library, 250 seater theater, three studios, editing suites and mixing rooms. "We want to encourage students to stay on campus and network with their colleagues. We are planning to introduce weekend and evening classes later," added Puri.

Among the advisory council for Whistling Woods are Om Puri, Shah Rukh Khan, Shabana Azmi, Ashutosh Gowariker, Karan Johar and Shyam Benegal. The governing board is chaired by Anand Mahindra.
