Indian Television Academy is all set to honour the achievers of the small screen, the awards will be aired on Star Plus on November 12 from 6 PM. The major attraction of the awards this year is its specially created character TV Rao, an MBA graduate and an ardent television lover, Rao is apparently going to be the host of the show.

The act is quite similar to what Sony did to Jassi, the identity of the actor is being kept under wraps. TV Rao (the reel name of the character) says that he is immensely proud to share his initials with the industry he loves so much.

"I was born for TV. In fact I am married to it," he says. Rao will be sharing his judgment on what works and what doesn't work with respect to the small screen.

This year there's an increase in number of entries, a total of 2,017 nominations have come from 340 TV shows, representing the entire spectrum of the medium, soaps, comedies, telefilms, documentaries, musicals, news and current affairs and lifestyle shows.

A total of 46 channels will be taking part in the awards, this year. Of the 50 odd categories, Nikki Aneja has been nominated as best actress in the drama category, in competition along side Mona Singh and Rajeshwari Sachdev. For best actor, Varun Badola of Astitva fame will give com petition to Shivaji Satam of CID.

For the best actor in negative roles the names doing the rounds are, Nirmal Pandey for the role in Hatim and Kiran Karmarkar for the role Rihaee. Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan has been nominated for the category of best anchor of game/quiz show, with Shekhar Suman (He Man), Derek O Brien (Bournvita Quiz Contest) and Annu Kapoor and Pallavi Joshi (Antakshri). May the best of the lot win.
