Televisionpoint.com Team Radio City 91 FM, presented a treat for its listeners and the die-hard fans of Dev Anand, by airing an exclusive 'live' interview of the evergreen hero and the living legend of the Indian Film industry, as part of the promotions for his forthcoming film, Prime Minister. Handsome and debonair, the epitome of the suave, urban gentleman, Dev Anand in a chatteratti with RJ Anirudh, took a trip 'down memory lane' and talked about his journey to stardom, how he landed up in Mumbai, always wanting to be film Hero and how he always followed his heart, in spite of lots of dissuaders along the way.
Dressed in the same eclat and style, one has always associated him with and his manners as charming as ever, the highpoint in Dev Anand's interview with RJ Anirudh on the show 'Film Vilm Pyaar Vyaar' was when the Mangeshkar sisters Lataji and Ashaji called-in to pay their tributes to the legend, speaking on air together for the first time. Refreshing the golden memories together, Lataji complimented Dev Anand on his ever-energetic "Live Life to the fullest" philosophy and felt that Waheeda Rehman was best paired opposite Dev Anand, remembering the chartbusters sung by her especially the soulful numbers from Guide, picturised on Waheeda Rehman.
Ashaji adding to the reverie remembered the first song, which she had sung for the actor and was especially nostalgic about 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' and 'Jewel Thief'. Both Lataji and Ashaji felt that Kishore Kumar's playback singing for Dev Saab was best suited to him, as he drew out the child-like, mischievous qualities of him to the fullest in his songs. The sultry beauty from the past, the daring Zeenat Aman also called on Dev Saab on-air and spoke about her most memorable moments in filmdom
Hosted by RJ Anirudh, this three and a half hour special provided maximum entertainment and recreated the nostalgia of the legendary Dev Saab's past 60 years in filmdom by featuring some of the Dev Saab's evergreen hit numbers. It was a complete trip down memory lane for Radio City listeners, many of whom came on air and wept while speaking to the legend. There were also about 50 "Meet and Greet" Winners who came down to the studio to meet up with Dev Saab. The excitement expressed by these winners at getting to meet Dev Saab was unbelievable. One of the Meet & Greet winners, Shruti Walia, exclaimed emotionally on- air, “My wish to meet Devji has came true and to thank god, I will walk from my home (Meera Road) to Siddhivinayak temple on foot.”
Dev Anand's forte was the boy next-door - Part lover, part clown, part do-gooder. From his debut-making Hum Ek Hain to Gangster, Baazi, C.I.D, Kala Bazar, Hum Dono, Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai it's been a haul for Dev Anand and grew his romantic hero image. However in between his lover boy roles like Munimjee (1955) and Paying Guest (1957), the versatile hero also played roles such as the pickpocket in Pocketmaar (1955), the absconding gang member in Dushman (1957), the black-marketeer in Kala Bazaar (1960) or the murderer in Bombay ka Babu (1960) with his starry mannerisms - his sing-song dialogue delivery, his puff in his hair, his total nonchalance being part of every character he played.
He won his first Filmfare award for his performance in the film Kala Pani in 1958. Hum Dono (1961) saw him excel in a double role and Guide (1965) saw a perfectly nuanced performance from him, perhaps the best of his career, fetching him his second Filmfare Best Actor Award. On January 26, 2001 Dev Anand was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian Cinema. |
