ATI Technologies,a leading 3D graphics and silicon solutions provider, will be ramping up its operations in India, both in terms of investment and in headcount, because the centre in Hyderabad was involved in leading-edge technology development, a senior company official said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the new 48,000 square feet facility of ATI Technologies India, a subsidiary here, Adrian Hartog, Senior Vice-president and general manager, consumer products division of ATI Technologies, said that the company would be investing $75 million in the Hyderabad centre.

While the investment would be spread over five years, the company will be doubling its headcount to more than 350 hardware professionals in the next 12 months, Hartog said.

"The Hyderabad centre develops some of the most critical technologies in terms of chip design for our consumer and PC businesses," Hartog said. ATI Technologies is based in Ontario, Canada.

The two labs to be set up at the centre would involve work on Digital TV and Audio solutions. The Hyderabad centre, which began operations in May last year, focuses on research and development of next-generation audio and digital media products.

It is currently working on developing chipsets for cellphones, high-definition televisions and set-top boxes. "The Indian development team has kept pace with the growth of our worldwide customer demand and has helped us develop products faster and more efficiently," Hartog said.

Said Dasaradha R. Gude, managing director of ATI Technologies India, "This facility will better serve our global operations and foster a more productive and collaborative environment for our teams."
