Amrita TV is launching a reality show Best Citizen Journalist, which aims to nurture aspirants for journalism. The show will be launched on February 4, to be telecasted Monday through Friday in the primetime.

The 90-episode show will feature a mix of indoor and outdoor filming with emphasis on location stories. The contestants would be judged by analysing their ability to gather and present human interest stories along with other specific assignments.

Sashi Kumar, Chairman, Asian College of Journalism, Chennai is the chief jury member, and the jury panel will also include few other eminent people from media.

Amrita TV officials claimed that the response to the auditions for Best Citizen Journalist was enthusiastic with over 1,000 SMS registrations. After a three-tier short listing process, which included camera test, review of topical stories submitted by the hopefuls, and an intensive workshop, 15 contestants made it to the grade to participate in the show. Among theses 15, 13 would be eliminated in various rounds, with just two participants going into the grand finale, who would fight out for the 'Best Citizen Journalist' title.

All the 15 participants have completed their grooming sessions, which consisted of the basics involved in news production, editing, visual language creation, and sorting news based on its value. Among the finalists, there are an almost equal number of men and women hailing from North, Central and South Kerala.

"For Amrita TV, which has been innovating with new format shows, this show is a unique, first on television show. This reality show is one more example of the channel's commitment to find, nurture and develop talent," pointed out Sushil Kumar, Marketing and communications head, Amrita TV.
