Televisionpoint.com Correspondent | Jaipur Aksh Optifibre is planning to invest $ 100 million in its interactive and personalised television (IPTV) joint venture with BSNL. It will roll out services in 20 cities of Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh (west).
On the sidelines of the launch of IPTV services, icontrol, in Jaipur, K S Choudhary, managing director, Aksh Optifibre, said that the company is targeting a subscriber base of 5 lakh in the next three years. "IPTV offers TV service through internet. The technology allows the use of internet, telephone and television at the same time. In the current scenario, we expect to touch to break even at 50,000 subscribers."
"However, it's difficult to ascertain the business dynamics of this highly volatile segment. We already have more than 7,000 subscribers in New Delhi and Mumbai where we are offering icontrol on broadband network of MTNL," he said.
As per the agreement with BSNL, the company needs to have 10,000 IPTV subscribers within a span of nine months across 20 cities. However, the company is confident of increasing the number. It had concluded a GDR/FCCB issue of $ 40 million in January 2008 to part finance the IPTV and VoIP services in Delhi and Mumbai.
G K Aggarwal, CGM, Rajasthan circle, BSNL said, that the services will be available to other cities of Rajasthan in next two months. "We would be able to roll out IPTV services in major cities like Jodhpur, Alwar, Kota, Udaipur and Ajmer in the second phase," he said. |
