Worried over missing your favourite TV show? Not any more. The Internet Protocol Television Service (IPTV) will be introduced by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Nagpur by November end, which will allow viewers to view the programme within 72 hours of its telecast.

Beginning this festive season, probably Dussera or Diwali, Nagpur will become second city in the Maharashtra state after Pune where BSNL will commercially roll out the much-talked about IPTV. At Nagpur it would be franchisee based service which would be taken care by Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL).

Murlidhar Bhatia, principal general manager, BSNL - Nagpur division, informed, "The IPTV is expected to revolutionise television viewing in the city, allowing viewers to ignore programming schedules and watch shows as and when they wish."

BSNL has already launched its IPTV service in Pune, the multi-play services will now offer IPTV (both free to-air and pay broadcast channels) and video on-demand in Nagpur soon, the second phase will include gaming, video-telephony, TV-based education and a personal video/digital recorder that allows users to record their favourite TV programmes and view it later.

Bhatia said, "The IPTV services have been run on trial basis at Itwari exchange and Central Telegraph Office exchange. IPTV runs on telephone line with a broadband connection. With IPTV customer can choose favourite film and play it at your convenience. There's also time shifted TV which allows you to watch that saas-bahu serial or cricket one-dayer you couldn't watch when it was telecast. Plus, there's the big advantage of having just one cable coming into your house for all your communication needs - telephone, Internet and TV."

The set top box will be available for the subscriber at Rs 3950 while monthly subscription fees will be Rs 150. Subscriber can either take set top box on rent for Rs 100 per month along with Rs 150 as subscription charges.
