Bharat Patel, chairman, Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd., was re-elected as chairman, the Indian Society of Advertisers (ISA) at the AGM held on September 26, 2008 in Mumbai.

Patel said, "ISA through its secretariat and executive committee will be focused on achieving three critical objectives in the coming years. These are to make advertising more efficient, more effective, and to bring out the value and positive role of advertising."

In order to achieve the first objective of making advertising more efficient, ISA will support the start-up of BARC, putting in efforts for withdrawal of the Maharashtra Stamp Duty on advertising contracts, and ensuring that advertising commercial terms and conditions are determined by parties concerned and not by trade associations.

For the second objective, ISA has decided to launch a series of innovative workshops and seminars on subjects such as social media and community - driven marketing, agency review, remuneration and relationship, etc.

To meet the third objective, ISA will continue to strongly support self-regulation in advertising so that consumers see advertising as decent and credible.

Patel explained, "We will also roll out with the help of other relevant industry associations in India some excellent communication material, which the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) has prepared to project the positive role advertising, plays in social and economic development."

The newly-elected ISA Council comprises 19 members - Andrew Williams (Asian Paints), R. Ramakrishnan (Bajaj Electricals), Naveen Kshatriya (Castrol), Prabha Parameswaran Mitra (Colgate), J.C. Chopra (Eureka Forbes), Jimmy Anklesaria (Godrej Consumer Products), Brahm Vasudeva (Hawkins), Gopal Vittal (HUL), Kurush Grant (ITC), Rajesh Kandwal (LIC), Dinesh Dayal (L'Oreal), Saugata Gupta (Marico), Virat Mehta (Nestle), Paulomi Dhawan (Raymond), Chander Sethi (Reckitt), Rajiv Dube (Tata Motors), Harish Bhat (Titan), Lal Rangwani (UB) and Kavita Nair (Vodafone).
