IBN announces winners of Citizen Journalist Awards

IBN 18 Broadcast has announced the winners of Citizen Journalist Awards to recognise the efforts of the common men and women, who have been out there, reporting fearlessly and are changing the system for a better tomorrow.
Two years ago, CNN-IBN and IBN7 had joined hands with viewers in line with the philosophy of inclusive journalism and explored the path of change called Citizen Journalist.
Shiela Dixit, chief minister, Delhi, felicitated 22 Citizen Journalists for their fearless reporting. The awards were given in seven different categories – Special CJ, Fight Back, Save Your City, Green CJ, Be the Change, Videos and Images. This occasion also saw the launch of Citizen Journalism on IBN Network's Marathi News channel IBN-Lokmat.
The awards are based on a two-tier selection process, where the editorial heads of IBN Network arrive at nominations for best Citizen Journalist's in different categories. Stage two involves deliberation by the esteemed jury to arrive at the final winners. The Jury included eminent citizens like Dr Kiran Bedi, Prasoon Joshi, Madhu Trehan, Rakeysh Mehra, Nandita Das, Neelam Krishnamoorthy and Arvind Kejriwal.
Rajdeep Sardesai, editor-in-chief, IBN Network, said, "Citizen Journalism lies at the heart of CNN-IBN's raison d'ętre of Inclusive Journalism. It not only engages the viewer in public life and encourages them to be proactive, but also transforms news into an interactive and multilateral process. Citizen Journalist Awards rewards the best Citizen Journalists who have made an impact with their effort to find truth and we are sure that this will encourage more participation from our viewers in the future."
Ashutosh, managing editor, IBN7, said, "Citizen Journalism is one of the best examples of citizen empowerment, it brings viewers to report the problem exactly in the manner they see it. We hope that with the first ever Citizen Journalist Awards we will be able to encourage the movement further and inspire citizens to take stand and fight back."
Nikhil Wagle, editor, IBN-Lokmat, said, "CJ as an initiative has so far garnered an impressive response from the citizens of the country on different issues. Now, with IBN-Lokmat, Citizen Journalism with only further amplify and reach out to the Marathi speaking masses and inspire them to report from ground zero on issues that might be close to their heart."
The Citizen Journalist Awards would be telecast on October 25, at 9:30 pm with a repeat telecast on October 26, at 5 pm on CNN-IBN and on October 25, at 8 pm with a repeat telecast on October 26, at 10 pm on IBN7.
