Anand Sharma given additional charge of I&B ministry

    Monday - Oct 20, 2008
    Televisionpoint.com Correspondent | New Delhi
Anand Sharma, the minister of state for external affairs, has been given additional charge of the Information and Broadcasting ministry after Priyaranjan Dasmunsi was admitted to AIIMS following a severe heart attack last week.

Sharma would reply to questions related to the I&B ministry in Parliament. Although the ministry has a minister of state, M. H. Ambareesh, Sharma would look after it.

Earlier this month, Ambareesh had sent in his resignation, but it has not been accepted by the government yet. He has stopped attending office for the last few months, but remains in the council of ministers.

Sharma is a former AICC spokesperson. A product of the NSUI and Youth Congress who started his career as a student leader in Shimla in 1972, Sharma was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1984 and later in 2004. He was inducted into the union cabinet in 2006.
