The subscriber base of Big TV, the direct-to-home (DTH) arm of Reliance Communications, has touched the figure of 5,00,000 within two months of its launch.
Arun K Kapoor, president, Big TV, says, "Our plans of defining the future of TV viewing in India are on desired course, and we are fully-geared to add over 2,50,000 subscribers every month with an on-ground infrastructure spanning 6500 Indian towns."
On an average, the entire DTH market in India adds 4,00,000 subscribers every month. "Big TV's half-million subscriber equation is equivalent to 40 per cent of the industry's gross additions during the last two months." says Kapoor.
Big TV expects to offer 20 HD channels and will be doubling its channel bouquet to 400 by next year. It will add four more Ku-band transponders to its current eight on Measat, which will enable it to offer more channels.
The current DTH market has five private players and one state owned free-to-air DTH service. Of the five private DTH operators, Big TV is offering the maximum number of channels and at the lowest price points.
