The Indian direct-to-home (DTH) market seems to be continuing its rapid acquisition of customers.

Dish TV recently celebrated its 4.5 million customer milestone, by having its brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan give away a car to its 4.5 millionth consumer. The first to launch its services, Essel Group's Dish TV is the market leader with a market share of more than 53 per cent of the total 8 million DTH subscriber base.

"This landmark, of 4.5 million customers, is testimony to the superior and affordable DTH services that we offer to all our customers across India. It is clearly the fastest growth achieved by any DTH service provider in the country," said Jawahar Goel, managing director, Dish TV.

Meanwhile, Reliance Big TV claims to have acquired one million subscribers within the three months of its launch, and is claiming a 15 per cent market share. Launched in August this year, Big TV is available at over one lakh retail outlets across 6,500 towns along with over 2,000 exclusive Reliance branded stores.

"Our customer-centric approach coupled with advanced technology, superior product and service with a wide distribution and installation service network spanning the country helped BIG TV cross the one-million milestone in such a short span of time," said Mahesh Prasad, president, Reliance Communications.

The other players in the business include Sun Direct, Airtel Digital TV and Tata Sky.
