Mass Entertainer Market Share
Televisionpoint.com calculated the estimated figures for the three mega channels - STAR Plus, Zee TV and Sony TV for the time slots of Afternoon and Primetime from 27.12.03 to 05.02.2005 for their Channel/Market share, pointing to some Interesting trends to watch out this whole scenario.

Undoubtedly, STAR Plus is India's No.1 channel, it's the heartland of India having a firm grip on Entertainment. In the Afternoon Slot, STAR Plus is the king, it does not face a serious competition by the other two, so we compared the Afternoon ratings of STAR with that of the Primetime ratings of Zee and Sony. The figures are very startling. The MON - THU Afternoon ratings of STAR are more than 3 times that of MON - THU Primetime ratings of Sony and 4 times that of Zee TV primetime. The afternoon slot of Plus is trade marked as STAR Dopahar and the shows are Kumkum, Bhabhi, Kesar and KANJ (Saarrthi is also included)

Afternoon Slot*** - Star's afternoon VS Zee and Sony's Primetime

All the primetime results are favored towards STAR Plus and a very little of the pie is shared by Zee and Sony. The 2100 - 2200 slot is the most competitive slot for all the channels. STAR Plus alone commands for 88 per cent audience share in this 2100 - 2200 segment. Unpractionally, SET commands 6 per cent and Zee commands 5 per cent. The slot is composed of Des mein nikla hoga chand, Kehta hai Dil, Sanjivani, Saara Akaash, Tum Bin Jaoon Kahaan (plus Kareena Kareena), Astitva, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, and Kkusum.

STAR Plus, of course, is riding a growth wave on a much larger base, the Primetime slot, showing its lethal effect on the other channels in its comparable competitive market, and is still in its form producing Quality serials. Sony TV is faced with the feisty challengers, the rivals. Sony and Zee are neck-to-neck in the race to be the No. 2 general entertainment channel.
